Daybeds

For centuries the daybed has been enjoyed by people across the globe. Daybeds were first introduced in China in the 14th century. Although there have been a few stylistic and size changes, the basic daybed design continues to be enjoyed today. Daybeds come in a variety of styles and finishes to fit any décor. A daybed is an attractive furniture piece for nearly every room of the house.

Style
Daybeds are available in a variety of styles including Mission, Chateau, Sleigh, Colonial and Victorian. Most daybeds are constructed of wood, iron, metal or a combination of wood and metal. They are available in many colors and finishes.

Frames
A daybed frame fits a standard twin mattress. The frame consists of three sides: one long side and two shorter sides. The frames look much like a rectangle with one long side missing. Many frames include a day link spring which provides additional support to the mattress for anyone sitting or sleeping on it. When not included with the frame, the day link spring may be purchased separately.

Options
A great way to expand a daybed's sleeping surface is with a pop-up trundle. These handy devices are stored underneath the daybed and only used when needed. This trundle “pops up” to stand beside the bed and creates a king size sleeping surface.

Another option is the drawer trundle, which is also stored beneath the bed. This style provides an additional twin-size sleeping surface, but is not elevated like the pop-up variety. Both trundles are great space savers.

Accessories
A daybed isn't complete until it has a few decorative accessories. An attractive comforter and matching pillows will accentuate the bed's beauty. Add a few additional pillows or bolsters and your daybed will become an inviting focal point in any room.

Daybeds have endured through the years because they are attractive, versatile pieces of furniture. Their dual purpose make them appropriate for a variety of uses and settings. They are a great sofa during the day, and a comfortable bed at night. They're a two-in-one that's perfect for everyone.
