Platform Beds
Platform beds come in a wide variety of styles and provide lots of valuable storage space. They are affordable and practical.
Economical
Platform beds eliminate the need for a box spring, making it more economical than a traditional bed. Because they are built to last, with a flat surface to firmly support the mattress (generally, platform beds support a mattress on a set of slats), they don’t require a box spring. A platform bed is designed to hold a futon mattress or an innerspring mattress. The mattresses on the market today are much thicker, more technically advanced, and definitely more comfortable than the mattresses of past generations. In short, most sleepers will not miss the box spring.
Practical
Due to the fact that the platform bed’s supporting surface is raised, there is ample storage space underneath the platform. Extra storage space is a commodity any household can appreciate and many platform beds come equipped with stylishly fashioned drawers or cupboards. In addition, they are often designed with headboards that contain bookcases to hold books or nick knacks. Platform beds are available in the same sizes as other types of beds—king, queen, full, and twin.
Variety
Platform bed frames are constructed from wood, metal, or a combination of these materials. Frames can be rustic or feminine, traditional or modern. You’ll achieve the look you want while satisfying the need for practical function.
Other Considerations
The feel of most mattresses is slightly firmer when supported on a platform bed, compared with a box spring. If this effect is a bit too firm for you, many platform beds can easily be adjusted to accommodate a box spring. When using the mattress directly on the slats, be sure that the supporting slats are secure and immovable. If the slats shift around, your mattress will wear out more quickly due to faulty support.
Whether you choose a platform bed because it is economical and practical, or because you like the clean, horizontal lines, you’ll enjoy its beauty and comfort for years to come. |
